Purchase | Revisions | My Account | Support | Tell a Friend Why am I experiencing Outlook performance degradation when using PIMShare? This is most likely due to a significant number of messages in the Outlook Inbox. PIMShare scans the Inbox every 15 seconds to determine if any PIMShare messages have arrived. If you store all your messages in the Inbox (instead of moving them to custom folders) this may cause Outlook to run slowly when PIMShare is active. Another possible cause for performance degradation is when you've specified to share ALL items in a given folder, rather than sharing only those you've categorized for sharing. A folder with many items can take a long time to share, especially when they are appointment items and you've unchecked the "Publish future appointments only" option under Configuration. PIMShare must first gather the details of each item, then it has to encrypt that information before e-mailing it to the other PIMShare user. The encryption phase is extremely resource intensive. Why is my Inbox filling up with PIMShare messages? PIMShare is not running or not configured properly.
Why don't I have a PIMShare menu? It's possible that Outlook has disabled the add-in.
How do I reinstall PIMShare?
Why is the value in the Categories field overwritten on items shared to other users. PIMShare is currently designed to use the Categories field to identify which items you have specified for sharing to others when you have selected NOT to share ALL items in that folder. It's perfectly acceptable for the publisher's copy of an item to contain categories other than that specified when defining subscribers in the PIMShare Configuration screen, however, those other categories will not be propogated to the subscriber's copy. This is normal and by design. Users have requested that PIMShare use some other method of identifying items for sharing. We are considering modifying PIMShare to use another method and will notify our user base if a solution is found. Why do I receive security warnings when using PIMShare? PIMShare utilizes the trusted Outlook Application object as per specifications found in the Microsoft articles below: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;327657 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;291163 PIMShare is only supported for use in Outlook 2003 and 2007. If you choose to use PIMShare in Outlook 2002 and are operating in a Microsoft Exchange environment, you may be presented with security warnings during PIMShare operation. This behavior cannot be controlled or modified by PIMShare (or any COM add-in for that matter) and is explained in further detail in the following Microsoft article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnout2k2/html/odc_olsecurityovw.asp Microsoft states in the article below: "Therefore, it does not display security warnings if run in an environment not running Exchange or in an Exchange environment where the add-in has been trusted by the administrator using the Security Settings folder." http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/odc_ol2003_ta/html/odc_olsecnotescomaddins.asp So, if you are using PIMShare with Outlook 2002 and security warnings are being displayed, it is very likely that you are operating in a Microsoft Exchange environment where your Exchange administrator has not yet explicitly trusted the PIMShare COM add-in in the Security Settings folder. The administrator may do so by following Microsoft guidelines detailed in the article below: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011362851033.aspx |
