When you register an e-mail will be sent to you
containing a link to confirm your registration. If you do not receive this
e-mail, there are two common causes: 1) an incorrect e-mail address was specified;
2) your spam filtering may have prevented the e-mail from reaching your Inbox.
Each participant (publisher and subscriber) in item sharing must be registered
and have PIMShare installed.
The PIMShare installation on the publisher computer will encrypt and e-mail items
to those individuals the publisher has configured as subscribers. When the PIMShare message
arrives on the subscriber's computer, an installation of PIMShare must also exist
there in order for the message to be interpreted and decrypted so the items in the message
can be imported into the subscriber's Outlook folders.
Start Outlook. A PIMShare menu will appear. Select Configuration in the PIMShare menu.
In the Publisher section enter the e-mail address and password you specified during
registration.
In the Subscribers section enter the e-mail address of another PIMShare user,
select the item type you are sharing with them, specify whether you'll be sharing all items
of that type or only those you categorize accordingly, and enter the category text
if you selected No in the Share All field. Click Add.
Enter more subscribers if desired.
To share different item types to the same user create a separate
subscriber entry for each type for that user.
If you select No in the Share All field, you must specify category
text. Then, that exact text must be entered in the Categories field of the
item to be shared. For example, the Categories field on the default Outlook
appointment item form is usually located at the bottom, right corner.
If you select Yes in the Share All field, you need not categorize items. PIMShare
will share all items of that type to that subscriber, regardless of how the items have
been categorized.
In the Scheduler section (if you prefer automatic publishing) check the Publish option
(recommended) and specify your preferred schedule.
In the Folders section, specify the folder for each item type that you want PIMShare to
use for publishing items and receiving items from other publishers.
In the Defaults section, set Reminder to the default value you want used for appointment
items received from other publishers.
Check the Receipt option if you wish to receive
an e-mail receipt each time one of your subscribers successfully processes a PIMShare
message from you (useful for testing but can be very annoying if left on).
Check the Indicate Publisher option (recommended) to have items prefixed with
abbreviated text which will indicate from whom the item came.
If you must go through a proxy server, check the proxy option and specify the address
and port. (This is untested. Successful functioning cannot be guaranteed.)
Click OK to close the Configuration screen. PIMShare will automatically verify your
account. If your account is unverified, disabled, or not in good standing, you will
receive an error message. If no error message is received, PIMShare begins operation
immediately by scanning your Inbox every 15 seconds for inbound PIMShare messages
from other PIMShare users. Inbound PIMShare messages are automatically processed
and deleted.
If you have a large number of messages in your Inbox, Outlook could experience some
performance degradation. It is recommended that you maintain a small number of messages
in your Inbox by moving messages to other folders.
If you turned on automatic publishing, PIMShare will perform it's first publish exactly
one minute after you close the Configuration screen. It will then publish according to
the scheduling options you specified. Otherwise, you must manually click Publish in the
PIMShare menu.
When you click "Goose subscribers" in the PIMShare menu, a Publish is performed with an
indicator telling the subscriber's PIMShare installation to immediately publish back to
you. The "goose" function only works if both publisher and subscriber are using v. 2.0.12
or later.
