Improving performance based outcomes for clients

Overview

Page has a team of sustainability specialists with deep experience in applying multiple green building certification systems to a full range of building types, including LEED, Austin Energy Green Building, Net Zero, Living Building Challenge, WELL, Green Globes, BREEAM, Passive House and a variety of nationally based systems. We know how to effectively balance the certification requirements with our client’s goals and budgets. We manage the Green Building Certification in 3 steps:

Goal Setting. When leading the sustainability efforts for projects, we begin every project by identifying our client’s core priorities within our Design for Impact framework. We talk as a team about the opportunities the project must improve energy performance, manage water responsibility, integrate resilience, responsibly source materials, promote well-being, respond to the environment and engage the surrounding community. This creates a strategy for the sustainable impact of the project and informs priorities moving forward. We then conduct a series of workshops with each discipline involved in the project to review in-depth the credit intentions and requirements related to their scope. We identify key challenges and opportunities to review with the owner. We then conduct a workshop with the client to review with them what we think the project can achieve based on the current scope, what items are likely, and what items should be considered as stretch goals.

Integration. Our team next moves to a phase of integration of requirements into their design packages, ensuring that credits and strategies they are championing are represented in their basis of design, design documents, and eventually specifications. For any credits where compliance is unclear, we work as a team to do a gap analysis of any credits, using both energy modeling and cost analysis to help our client make the most informed decision to remove the ambiguity of our Green Building Certification path. During the construction process, this coordination requires working directly with the contractor to develop Quality Assurance plans for construction waste, erosion management, IAQ management and materials tracking.

Documentation. The final step in designing for Green Building Certification includes documentation of our strategies. Just as the permitting process requires verification the project has been designed to appropriate standards; our documentation shows our project meets credit requirements. We integrate this documentation into our construction documents and provide additional exhibits and calculators to back up our compliance strategy. We effectively manage this submittal process and any additional questions asked of us by the certifying body.

Achievements. Page has over 75 active certification projects as of 2Q2022 and holds the distinction of certifying more gross square feet of Austin Energy Green Building projects than any other firm.
