A HERO In Our Community
Our people are our most valuable resource. We deliberately seek out employees with backgrounds and experiences as diverse as our portfolio of buildings and places, and we're proud of all their accomplishments. Our Jacques Bourgeois was just honored by OutSmart Magazine for his work with Houston Mayor Annise Parker on the advocacy and passage of the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO) and for his charitable work within and outside the LGBTQ communities.
Jacques was identified as one of nine representatives of Black LGBTQ leadership in Houston. OutSmart put a spotlight on the work he's done to raise money to benefit Texas Children's Hospital and local LGBT organizations through the Houston nonprofit organization he co-founded, Houston Gaymers, which was also recently honored by the readers of OutSmart as “Houston’s Best LGBT Social Organization of 2014.”
They also noted his work on other local nonprofit organizations like Human Rights Campaign - Houston, Bunnies on the Bayou, Pride Houston, Houston GLBT Political Caucus, and the T.R.U.T.H. Project, a group that uses art to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS. Jacques expresses his motivation as, “I love my city and the people in it, and will do anything I can to help it continue moving and thinking forward.”
Lastly, the magazine asked him what his idea of the perfect Valentine's Day would be. Jacques immediately referenced Discovery Green, a Page award-winning project, which makes us even sweeter on him. Congratulations on this honor, Jacques!
