Page Welcomes...

Robert Phinney, AIA, LEED Fellow, has joined Page as Associate Principal and Sustainable Design Director. He is a recognized expert in sustainable design and has over 20 years of experience in the same markets in which Page specializes. During his career he has worked on over 40 LEED certified projects, integrating sustainable design into multi-million dollar federal, civic, science/technology, and healthcare projects.

Robert has been involved with sustainability from the beginning of the then-fledgling movement and actively participated in the early development of the Green Guide for Healthcare. He has been a key contributor in developing LEED systems and credentialing exams, and is one of the first accredited professionals and system verifiers for the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) Envision infrastructure rating system.

Now leading the firmwide sustainable design efforts from the Page Washington, DC office, Robert is working to ensure that meaningful metrics are being used across each discipline as Page continues to effectively integrate sustainability throughout our design practice. He also is managing the continued improvement of Page’s performance in our work to meet the goals of AIA 2030 Commitment.

Robert currently serves as an ambassador for the Living Building Challenge, promoting regenerative design through the use of less harmful materials. He also has been a member of the City of Alexandria Green Building Advisory Board and the Maryland Clean Energy Council. Previously, he served on the Executive Committee of the USGBC NCR Board of Directors. Robert frequently shares his insights and knowledge on sustainable design in publications and at conferences throughout the U.S.

Prior to joining Page, Robert consulted with organizations to promote optimal business processes and integrate sustainable practices through the development of strategic plans, operational assessments, and the use of metrics to monitor progress toward key performance goals. In his previous role as Director of Sustainable Design and Energy Services at HDR, Inc., he improved project outcomes across the firm through policies and improved resources and transformed their sustainable design consulting services into a successful profit center.

Robert’s credentials include LEED BD+C, ID+C; Green Globes Professional; Envision Green Infrastructure’s Sustainability Professional and Verifier; Green Building Initiative’s Guiding Principles Compliance Professional; and the Project Management Institute’s Project Management Professional certification.  He earned his Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Virginia and Master of Architecture – Sustainable Design Focus from North Carolina State University.

Page is very pleased to welcome Robert to the firm!
