UH Cougars Open Football Season In New Stadium
The local NPR radio station just provided its listeners with an update on the status of construction at TDECU Stadium, which will soon house the University of Houston football program. They interviewed the university's athletic administrators who had high praise for Page's design.
David Bassity, Assistant Athletics Director says once fans arrive, they will like what they see.
"Through the entire design and construction process, it's been all about the fan and the fan experience," said Bassity. "Sixty-seven percent of the concourse is opened to the field, so when you're going to the concession stand or the restroom, not only do you have the TVs if you have your back to the field, but you can also turn around and the see the field. And quite honestly, I know it sounds like a cliché, but there's really not a bad seat in the house."
Mack Rhoades, Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics, told reporters last month that the stadium was designed with the fans in mind. "I hope they see a stadium that we put a lot of thought into, that's unique, that is extremely fan-friendly — certainly one that's packed — the fact that two-thirds of the concourse is wide open."
