Kate is a designer’s designer. With impeccable skills and quality of work, she brings smart solutions and beautiful details to all of her projects. Her portfolio ranges from luxury residential and boutique hotels to multifamily mid-rise and high-rise spaces. She sees the larger picture and easily focuses on the individual and defining elements of a space. She often designs signature furniture pieces that are built in collaboration with local fabricators for the interiors she is designing.
Part of what Kate loves about her work is the exploration of materials and scale. Due to the variety of her project types, she enjoys a range of flexibility for experimentation with both.
“For me some of the most important elements in a project are those that the user comes in contact with every day,” she explains. “It is not only the scale and functionality of the spaces themselves, but the scale of the furniture, the hand, scent, sound, reflectivity and scale of the materials that go into a project that are the lasting impressions that stay with people to create the overall experience and feeling of place. It’s also important to me that we use materials with a conscience. Not only that we source materials that do no harm to the region, animals or people that inhabit those places, but that we source materials that are sustainable, healthy for the user and locally sourced.”
In her spare time, Kate works on a variety of projects including cycling for the Tito’s cycling team, remodeling her own 1960s midcentury ranch, and constantly exploring new mediums from stone and wood, to ceramics, watercolor and light. Kate loves to spend time outdoors and often takes advantage of the active lifestyle Austin offers alongside her water-loving, black lab rescue, Strider. She also enjoys supporting the arts scene in the city incorporating local artists and makers into every project.
