Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital
The Woodlands, TX
Page and Houston Methodist partnered again to bring another community hospital, the eighth in the Houston Methodist system, to the greater Houston metropolitan area. This new 480,000 square foot campus is located in The Woodlands, a rapidly growing township just north of the Houston city limits and serves as a community-based place for healing.
While upholding the healthcare system’s exemplary standard of care, this hospital campus is deeply rooted in the community character of The Woodlands. The natural waterway along the entry drive, the sculptures of native herons and the outdoor plazas set a peaceful tone for the patient and family experience.
Inside, the glass atrium provides a connection to nature throughout for patients and families, creating an unparalleled sense of orientation and comfort. Work by local artists are featured throughout public spaces, further fostering community connections.
Speed to market was a key element in the delivery process of this project, which benefitted greatly from the post-occupancy evaluations of the Page-designed Houston Methodist West Hospital. Utilizing a design/assist fast-track delivery method, the project team was able to deliver The Woodlands Hospital in just 36 months.
The first medical office building (MOB) opened a year in advance of the hospital to allow physician practices to locate at the 162,000 square foot facility well ahead of the hospital opening. The campus provides a range of outpatient and inpatient services to serve the needs of the community including cancer, orthopedic, heart, neuro and cardiovascular care.
Page designed several hospital outpatient departments within the MOB including an 11,000 square foot cancer center with a linear accelerator, a 5,000 square foot patient lab and infusion center, and an 8,500 square foot breast care center. These outpatient departments were completed and operational on the same day as the hospital, further allowing Houston Methodist to provide a greater expansion of medical care services to The Woodlands and surrounding communities.
