U.S. Embassy Compound - Rabat
This new diplomatic mission compound was awarded as a Design/Build contract to Page as the Project Architect and B.L. Harbert International as the contractor. The 8.25 acre project is developed in the high-end residential neighborhood of Soussi in Rabat. The 14,383 SM building houses include the main embassy offices, U.S. marine residences, maintenance shops and showers, and the compound utility building.
The nature and the area restrictions of the site allows for a design, where all of the functions are housed in one large building in a closed courtyard. It features large glazed views of the courtyard and landscape features such as the main water fountain
The height restrictions for the neighborhood and the site topography permits a design where the building sits partially below grade, creating a low profile that fits comfortably with the scale of its neighbors without sacrificing program. Other buildings on the compound include underground visitor parking and controlled access facility buildings.
The project, designed by SmithGroupJJR, is targeting the U.S. Green Building Council’s “LEED Silver” certification in accordance with OBO requirements.
