Union Market is a historic site that had been a culinary scene and gathering spot for fresh food vendors for more than 200 years, in the heart of Washington, DC. The property had deteriorated over the years and when the developer acquired the property it underwent a remarkable restoration with the goal of reviving the market and the area into a culinary venue once again. Working with the client, our branding and graphics team led the overall visioning for the district, developed the identity, monument signage and graphics, and designed pop-up food stalls for the large interior spaces. The market re-opened in 2012 as an authentic, artisanal open-air marketplace featuring local vendors. The project successfully created a vibrant and continually expanding experience and environment, while honoring and preserving the authenticity of the historic assets.
