In 2018, the University of Houston turned its attention to The Quad, a venerable student housing complex of five dormitories built in the ’50s. The university partnered again with Page to explore the possibilities for new housing that would better serve its growing population.

The new 1,200-bed housing development features a traditional residence hall with single-occupancy rooms and a series of conjoined townhouses. As a nod to the original quadrangle housing, the buildings wrap around enclosed courtyards, offering a sense of community and room for study and play. Connected by bridges, The Quad creates intimate spaces for learning and sharing across all buildings.

The townhouses directly across from the main entrance to The Quad support the university’s goal to recruit more international students. Within each three-story walk-up, you can find a community of up to 18 residents sharing recipes in their full kitchen or exchanging stories from back home in the ample living space.

Combined, The Quad breathes new life into the University of Houston’s history and traditions. Now, after a good night’s rest, scholars can head to the student center and gather with friends before class.
