Celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through Nonviolence365 and the Beloved Community

ATLANTA – Feb. 10, 2025 — Page believes in the power of architecture as a form of advocacy. Our legacy is intertwined with the work of our late partner, Max Bond, the visionary architect behind the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change and the final resting place of Dr. and Mrs. King. Max’s work exemplifies the transformative principles of the civil rights movement, merging design with a commitment to social and economic justice. His legacy continues to inspire our practice, reinforcing our dedication to inclusivity, empowerment, and our firm’s central pillar of social and environmental responsibility.

In the spirit of honoring Dr. King’s vision, Pagers from across the company came together for a week of Nonviolence365 and Beloved Community events leading up to Martin Luther King Jr. Day. These events provided an opportunity to reflect on Dr. King’s teachings and their relevance today while participating in meaningful actions that build bridges and foster equity.

Learning Through the Lens of Nonviolence

Representatives from our company had the privilege of attending the Beloved Community Global Summit. The summit examined the intersection of artificial intelligence, freedom, justice, and democracy through the lens of Kingian nonviolence practices. Keynote speakers and panelists, including Dr. Bernice King and filmmaker Shalini Kantayya, challenged the audience to view technology not merely as a tool for innovation but as a means of enhancing our collective humanity. A recurring theme throughout the summit was the importance of using AI to advance equity and justice, particularly in marginalized communities.

Acts of Service and Care

True to Dr. King’s vision of the Beloved Community, Page’s Atlanta and New York offices worked together to assemble and deliver more than 100 adult and baby care kits to the King Center. These kits support vulnerable individuals and families facing housing insecurity in the Atlanta area and were a testament to the collective effort of our team members.

Honoring Change-Makers at the Beloved Community Awards

Page was honored to sponsor the Beloved Community Awards that recognized individuals and organizations embodying Dr. King’s principles of justice, equality, and service.

Honorees included:

• Nadia Murad, recipient of the Coretta Scott King Soul of the Nation Award, for her advocacy through Nadia’s Initiative.
• Santiago Marquez, CEO of the Latin American Association, who accepted the Corporate Youth Influencer Award.
• Heman Bekele, TIME’s 2024 Kid of the Year, recognized with the Individual Youth Influencer Award.
• PSYONIC, recipient of the Technological Innovation Award, accepted by CEO and founder Aadeel Akhtar, Ph.D.
• AIDS Healthcare Foundation, honored with the Social Justice Award.
• Black Voters Matter, co-founded by LaTosha Brown and Cliff Albright, recognized with the Civic Leadership Award.
• Serenbe, recipient of the Environmental Award, accepted by founder and managing partner Steve Nygren.
• Morris Brown College, awarded the Christine King Farris Legacy of Service in Education Award.
• Jenifer Lewis, actress and activist, honored with the Yolanda D. King Higher Ground Award.
• Laura Arnold, Founder of Arnold Ventures, recognized with the Salute to Greatness Humanitarian Award.
• Mars, recipient of the Salute to Greatness Corporate Social Impact Award, accepted by Anton Vincent, president of Mars Wrigley North America.

These honors remind us of the work being done across industries and communities to advance Dr. King’s dream—and the work ahead.

Reflecting in Dr. King’s Sanctuary

To conclude the week of commemorative activities, two Pagers, Regis Mitchom – a member of the church, and Cara Soh, attended the Martin Luther King Jr. Day service at Ebenezer Baptist Church, where Dr. King once served as pastor. The service, a cornerstone of Atlanta’s celebrations, provided a powerful space to reflect on Dr. King’s life, his enduring message, and the collective responsibility to carry forward his vision of equality and justice. The Beloved Community Commemorative Service exemplified The King Center’s mission to advocate for its principles of Nonviolence365. It was inspiring to observe voices from various cultures, religions, and generations articulated through the mediums of speech, poetry, and song. This occasion also served as a moment of unity that provided inspiration to move forward each day among differing ideologies and cultures in that same spirit. It was a reminder that encountering adversity is not a sprint but a lifelong journey.

As we reflect on this week of learning, service, and celebration, we are reminded that building a Beloved Community requires ongoing commitment from all of us.
