When curiosity meets capability, we embrace a world of possibilities. Design Innovation is composed of Research & Innovation (R&I) and the Design Exchange (DX). R&I focuses on emerging trends, frameworks, and future-forward strategies that inform our practice, while DX is a multidisciplinary collective that explores, prototypes, and advances design solutions through Building Sciences, Fabrication, Storytelling, Studio X, Tech Lab, and VISTA. The two practices work seamlessly across scales, from developing growth strategies to creating high-performance tools and methodologies. Together, the teams accelerate Page’s goals and ignite industry transformation.
From immersive storytelling to leading-edge tech and material exploration, each team unlocks new ways to think, make, and build.
Design Innovation at Page is a mindset. It’s how we question assumptions, build smarter tools, and strengthen the impact of design. Whether we’re conducting research, fabricating ideas, or deepening the human connection at the heart of our work, our focus is on helping teams win work, do work, and tell better stories.

Page’s Research & Innovation group operates as a strategic growth engine—architecting firm-wide transformation through multi-horizon roadmaps, emerging technology integration, cross-sector alliances, and an entrepreneurial shift in culture. Fast, future-focused, and fearlessly cross-disciplinary, the R&I group embed strategy into real-world projects, creating the conditions for innovation to scale, amplifying impact, unlocking new value, and accelerating transformation across Page and the industry.
For the R&I group, innovation means asking better questions—moving upstream with the courage to reframe problems, not just generate clever solutions. In this approach, innovation is the infrastructure, and strategy is the driver. The result? A living engine of change that moves from insight to action, shaping not just outcomes, but the future of the built environment itself. In this framework, R&I is the catalyst that equips Page to lead boldly and shape what’s next.
The Design Exchange fosters mentorship, hands-on learning, and cross-disciplinary growth, equipping teams with tools and insights to elevate design outcomes across the firm.
The Design Exchange is a hub for learning, mentorship, and growth. Through Studio X, team members apply to join a year-long design sprint where they explore tools, test ideas, and work alongside seasoned designers. The experience blends hands-on practice with real-time feedback, equipping participants to bring new thinking and advanced skill sets back to their offices. Storytelling leads training in human-centered skills like communication and emotional intelligence development. Building Sciences and Tech Lab mentor through accessible “how-to” videos that help teams adopt new tools with confidence. Building Sciences also conducts practice-specific internships, embedding emerging professionals in the work to build expertise. Through the Design for Impact report, the team provides data-driven insights that elevate outcomes. Across disciplines, the Design Exchange builds a culture of knowledge-sharing, helping people grow their craft and capabilities.

In 2024, Page reported 100% of our projects in design to AIA 2030, achieving an average of 60% energy use reduction (EUI)—proof that performance-driven, sustainable design is at our core.
What makes a room good? On Storytelling’s The Good Room podcast, we answer this question through interdisciplinary design conversations, featuring a compelling combination of curiosity, experience, and reflections.
Central to Page fabrication’s mission is to be an active agent of change within our community. Our involvement includes pro-bono architectural models, installations for charitable causes, and community events hosted at our fabrication shop.
To deliver one finished rendering on any given project, the Tech Lab often generates 20-30 iterations for review, and fine-tunes a plethora of options, including camera settings, materials, lighting, entourage, and the appearance of the site context.
VISTA (Vision, Insights, Strategy, Tactics, and Analytics) has led or supported 241 projects spanning 10 market sectors and 14 offices over the last 5 years.
