His portfolio includes a diverse range of projects reflecting his ability to unite complex programmatic requirements with innovative design solutions. He is the designer of the National September 11 Memorial Museum at the World Trade Center, which involved complex security and sustainability measures, coordination of an enormous consultant team, and interaction between a plethora of stakeholders. Steven also received the Presidential Award for Design Excellence for the US Census Bureau's Data Processing Headquarters.
