G.B. Dealey Center for New Media
The Belo Center for New Media, now the G. B. Dealey Center, is a five-story, 120,000-square-foot facility at the University of Texas at Austin, completed in 2012 to support digital and media studies. It houses the School of Journalism, the Stan Richards School of Advertising and Public Relations, the Dean’s Office, and KUT Public Media Studios.
Page provided third-party commissioning for this high-profile facility, which earned LEED Gold certification, reinforcing UT Austin’s commitment to sustainability. Key design strategies include vertical shading fins that reduce solar heat gain, minimizing the need for artificial cooling and lowering energy consumption. An irrigation system repurposes air conditioning condensate and collected rainwater, saving approximately 465,000 gallons of potable water annually. A bio-filtration water feature and bioswale support stormwater management, improving water quality and reducing runoff.
The commissioning process was essential in verifying system performance, optimizing efficiency, and supporting long-term sustainability.
