Andrews Institute Sports Medicine Health and Wellness Complex
With more than 2.5 million children treated annually for sport-related injuries, the need for specialized care is greater than ever. In response, Dr. James Andrews, co-founder of the Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center, partnered with Children’s Health to create a premier pediatric Sports Medicine Health and Wellness Complex. Page designed this state-of-the-art facility to reduce injuries, enhance recovery, and provide wellness and injury prevention education.
Aligned with Children’s Health's mission to “Make life better for children,” the complex offers a comprehensive continuum of care—from wellness training and nutrition counseling to surgery, rehabilitation, and therapy. Located on the first two levels of the building, The Andrews Institute includes an Ambulatory Surgical Center, athletic performance training, physical therapy, outpatient imaging, and pediatric orthopedics clinics—ensuring young athletes receive expert care at every stage of their journey.
The Children’s Health Specialty Center’s exterior design reflects a balance of continuity and innovation. From the start, the design team and owner prioritized a cohesive campus identity, ensuring the new facility would complement its surroundings while embracing sustainable, regionally sourced materials.
Lueders limestone and glass—hallmarks of North Texas architecture—were selected for their durability, beauty, and connection to place. When an opportunity arose to reduce costs on the exterior envelope, the team faced a challenge: How do we maintain the integrity of the design while adapting to new constraints?
The solution was both creative and strategic. After extensive studies, a custom blend of three brick shades was chosen to replicate the natural variations of limestone, seamlessly integrating with the campus aesthetic. This approach not only preserved design intent but also introduced flexibility for future projects—ensuring a timeless look that evolves with the campus.
Design in motion
Movement shapes every space, from Athletic Performance Testing to Physical Therapy and Rehab. The building’s form interacts with sunlight, casting dynamic shadows that shift throughout the day and seasons—creating a constantly evolving façade. This interplay of light and motion reinforces the center’s focus on energy, progress, and recovery.
