Muma Children’s Hospital Pediatric Renovation
Tampa General Hospital’s Muma Children’s Hospital has long been recognized for its exceptional pediatric care. To ensure the environment matched its high standards of healing and innovation, the hospital embarked on a transformative renovation of its 5th-floor pediatric unit—originally designed in 1927—bringing new life to the aging interior.
Experiential Graphic Design
A day at the beach
The “A Day at the Beach” theme provided a natural framework for navigation. Each patient neighborhood—Channel Side, Riverwalk, and Bayshore—is distinguished by large-scale wall graphics depicting surfboards, pelicans, and coastal landmarks, serving as visual anchors for intuitive wayfinding.
Moments of discovery
At child-level heights, porthole windows reveal hidden surprises—engaging young patients with underwater scenes, Tampa’s marine life, and beach-themed illustrations. These elements aid wayfinding, spark curiosity, and provide moments of joy, turning hospital navigation into an adventure.
Seamless wayfinding
Experiential graphics extend beyond signage, integrating into floor patterns, ceiling treatments, and interactive elements. The Main Sail central hub employs large-scale environmental graphics and wayfinding features embedded into the architecture, guiding visitors effortlessly through the space.
