The Healing Garden at the Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital
The recently renovated Healing Garden at the Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital is a warm, restorative space. Thoughtfully designed to foster well-being for patients, their guests, and staff, the reimagined atrium embraces the meaning of The Healing Garden, originally conceived to honor its benefactor, Swadesh Khurana.
The Healing Garden is organized into three seating areas. Lounge seating near the entrance sets a hospitable tone. The central zone offers a variety of seating heights that accommodate diverse activities, from collaboration to social interaction. Finally, there is a “campfire” grouping near the water feature—a focal point for quiet reflection.
Atrium furniture can easily be reconfigured, allowing multipurpose use for events.
Biophilic elements emulate a park setting, including live trees, stone pathways, and light fixtures reminiscent of branches. The furniture’s cool blues and neutral tones are enhanced by warm-looking architectural finishes, resulting in an intentionally tranquil setting.
At Page, we believe great design is a collaboration. For The Healing Garden, our interior designers organized a hands-on “furniture rodeo”—a sit test where decision makers from the Houston Methodist Hospital team could experience every proposed piece before making final choices.
With countless options to explore, this interactive approach ensured comfort, quality, and style were perfectly aligned with the project’s vision and client expectations. The result? A space designed not just for aesthetics but for real people, real experiences, and lasting impact.
(It was fun, too.)
“We designed The Healing Garden at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital during COVID as a comforting space for guests and a quiet respite for caregivers. Its spacious atrium and strategically placed furniture ensured proper social distancing, helping control the spread of COVID and other infectious diseases.”Marissa YuPrincipal, Interior Design DirectorHouston
