Agricultural Engineering Building
Penn State’s campus reflects the legacy of architect Charles Klauder, whose designs define its early 20th-century character. This project revitalizes his historic Agricultural Engineering building, seamlessly blending tradition with modern innovation.
The expanded facility creates dynamic spaces for research and learning, from high-bay workshops to leading-edge labs supporting everything from nano-scale science to food processing and advanced machinery. Sustainability is woven into the design, featuring high-efficiency air systems, a green roof, water conservation, and locally sourced Pennsylvania forestry products.
Success came through true collaboration. Partnering with Penn State, DPR Construction, Lighthouse Electric, and MMC Mechanical Contractors, we leveraged Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) to enhance efficiency, innovation, and value.
The result is a forward-looking hub for agricultural engineering, designed to support groundbreaking research while honoring the university’s storied past.
Leading from the ground up
Penn State plans to be an international research, education, and outreach leader on the most critical agricultural and biologically based sustainability issues. This modernized facility enhances research cooperation within its community, and with other universities, governmental entities, and industry partners.
This sustainable design reflects Penn State’s commitment to environmental stewardship, integrating energy-efficient systems, water conservation, and responsibly sourced materials.
