North Carolina A&T State University, recognized as the nation’s top institution for awarding undergraduate engineering degrees to African Americans, envisioned a next-generation hub for discovery, collaboration, and impact. Enter ERIC: a dynamic, future-ready environment where students learn by refining prototypes in the expansive makerspace, engaging in breakthrough discussions with faculty in the sunlit atrium, and debating the balance of energy efficiency and embodied carbon in the relaxing courtyard.

This four-story, glass-paneled landmark redefines interdisciplinary learning with adaptable classrooms, experiential studios, and purpose-driven research suites specializing in cybersecurity and network systems, energy and sustainability, and health applications. ERIC’s forward-thinking design integrates the Facility for Intelligent Robotics, Sensing, and Telepresence (FIRST); the Reality Emulation and Augmentation Laboratory (REAL) featuring an advanced vehicle-in-the-loop driving simulator; and a leading-edge 3D Holographic Design Studio. Together, these elements create immersive environments for students to engage in product development, digital twinning, medical diagnostics, and interactive social activity.

Fostering industry partnerships for student and the community benefit

The ERIC is a hot spot for innovation and hands-on education. Faculty, staff, and students form industry partnerships and apply speed-to-market principles with new projects, prototypes, and job opportunities that uplift the community. Page worked extensively with NC A&T to design a project that didn’t simply house classrooms or laboratories; instead, it’s a purpose-built space to support the university’s goals for its students and community.
