Weapons Evaluation Group Subscale Drone Facilities
Imagine sleek, metallic drones in flight, resembling the tight formation of geese flying south for the winter. In perfect unison, the flock swoops towards the land, touching down on Tyndall Air Force Base’s tarmac before navigating to the Aircraft Maintenance Hangar (ACS).
Page designed the ACS facility’s façade to mimic an aircraft’s wing with a gradually slanting roof and steel framing. Entering through coiling overhead doors, a wide-open platform awaits the drones while the Weapons Evaluation Group (WEG) cleans the machinery on wash racks, performs repairs in the equipment shops, and stores the drones in a highly secured unit. Nearby, in the Electronic Countermeasure (ECM) Pod Shop and Storage, personnel with backgrounds in electrical engineering, avionics, and other technical fields construct and tweak ECM pods, which protect against enemy attack.
Each facility is designed with sustainability in mind. Energy-efficient systems are highly resilient to wind and hurricane events, while cavity wall designs include rain-screen veneer cladding, moisture barriers, and concrete masonry walls to enhance protection from extreme weather.
