The new VA Outpatient Clinic is a two-story ambulatory care facility that provides primary and ancillary care for Veterans in the Northern Charleston area. The building was designed to provide a strong, highly visible presence from the main road, while maximizing daylight and reducing solar heat gain.

The principles of Sustainable Design, Patient Safety & Physical Security, and Evidence Based Design were kept in the forefront of the designer. The plan incorporates the VA Space Planning Criteria, specifically the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model which defines the on-stage/off-stage components while providing flexibility to respond to future needs. This includes utilizing universal room sizes and providing plumbing to accommodate additional future exam rooms to meet workload demands. The use of standard planning components includes Exam Rooms, Team Rooms and Team Support Areas. In addition to primary care, the clinic also incorporates behavioral health, dentistry, laboratory services and cardiology. A sterile processing department supports dentistry and other clinic requirements.

The Imaging Suite is comprised of CT, General Radiology, Ultrasound and Bone Density testing. The main Imaging corridor leads to an exterior door and covered walkway to a mobile MRI trailer.
